Mmapitso & Tebatso

A wedding to last a lifetime…

Mmapitso and Tebatso grew up in the same area – they were childhood friends that later turned into best friends. Their friends and family were rooting for them to get together but they decided against it as they didn’t want to ruin our friendship. “God finally revealed to us that we were meant to be and we started dating in January 2017; let’s just say everyone was elated.”

 The Proposal:

Mmaptiso: “About a month or so into our relationship he asked me how I’d feel if he sent a letter to my family to start our marriage proceedings. I couldn’t believe it but of course I said yes.”
Tebatso: “I then secretly asked her father out for lunch and asked him for Mmapitso’s hand in marriage. My uncle went over to her parents’ house with a letter soon after that and our journey officially began. She received her ring just before our traditional wedding. We are constantly teased for our whirlwind romance.”

 The Wedding Day:

Mmaptiso: ” Our wedding day was perfect in every way. We both felt a great sense of calm and excitement and this was how we felt throughout the day. The weather was perfect, our guests looked stunning and the day’s proceedings were a true reflection of who we are and our love for each other. The ceremony set the tone for the day and the emotions, love and fun of it all continued throughout the day. It was intimate and this allowed us to engage in conversations with all our guests. We desired the warmth similar to hosting our friends and family at home, the only difference was that we were dressed up. We really had a great time.”

Small Touches:

Mmapitso: “It would have been wonderful to have Tebatso’s parents there. We honoured their memory in different ways throughout the day.”

Tebatso: “After receiving her gift in the morning, Mmapitso sent special cufflinks to my room. They had my parent’s pictures on them. Though they were there in spirit, that made them feel even closer.”

The Venue:

“We chose the Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff to celebrate our marriage. Their Rose Garden is spectacular and gives off the feeling of hosting in your backyard under trees and roses as the birds chirp away. Their Arcadia ballroom didn’t require much work and we loved that. We wanted a venue where our guests would feel special but also feel comfortable. We were also impressed by their service and different managers for each aspect of our wedding day. The venue formed the perfect backdrop to a wedding dream come true coupled with beautiful weather.”

Decor & Theme:

“We wanted a sophisticated, classic and timeless wedding. A wedding that will last a lifetime. Our colours were soft, with boldness coming in from the touches of black and marble. Our tables were named after each fruit of the Spirit and words we’d love to live by in our marriage such as joy, kindness, peace and so on, tying in with our overall wedding theme of Faith, Hope & Love. The venue and the décor were a matched perfectly.”

The Dress:

“I chose to wear a sweetheart neckline, fit & flare dress. I felt that this dress style would suit me more and accentuate the right parts of my body, as a ball gown styled dress would make me look bigger. I matched this with a laced, off-shoulder bolero to highlight my neckline.”

The ceremony was a main highlight for the both of us including the music, which was important to us all the way through our entire wedding. Ps Derick delivered a meaningful ceremony that everyone loved and that reaffirmed our love and commitment to each other. Partaking in Holy Communion and planting a tree to mark our journey was amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed the party and celebrating our love for each other with close friends and family. The day will be etched in our hearts and memories forever.”

After the Ceremony:

“It felt surreal. We were both flooded with a great sense of peace that this is the right decision and that we were meant for each other.”

The Honeymoon:

Mmapitso: “This was actually our 1 year anniversary celebration. Last year we officiated our union and also had our traditional wedding. We opted to rather reaffirm our vows to each other every year, whether it’s just the two of us or with close friends and family, big or small.”

Tebatso: “I pray God helps me to keep my promise to her. Reaffirming our vows to each other annually is important to the both of us. It’s important to check-in with each other every now and then to see if we are both still enjoying our marriage. We believe that this will make our marriage last forever.”

“Select reliable suppliers who are not only great at what they do but are highly reliable. A wedding planner and co-ordinator is a must. You don’t have to relinquish all control but the assistance helps a lot and allows you to enjoy the build-up. They also run the show on the day allowing you and your family to fully enjoy the day without worrying about a single thing. Plan some parts of the day with your partner so that you can bond. Prioritise and only invest in elements that will add to the overall experience and lifelong memories. You don’t need popular suppliers or the most expensive items, styling is more important than price. Lastly, enjoy the celebrations and if something goes wrong don’t take it to heart, you are marrying the love of your life after all and that’s the only thing that matters, everything else is just cosmetic.”
