Where and how did you meet?

We met for the first time at a mutual friend’s house-warming party.

It was a while until we met again, but by the second encounter it was evident to me that he was the man with whom I was going to spend the rest of my life.

How did he propose?

This really took me by surprise. I knew he was ‘the one’ and wanted nothing more than to be his wife, but truly didn’t see it coming. I had been away in Paris on a work trip and on my return my best friend collected me from the airport as arranged (little did I know this was always part of the proposal plan). She dropped me off at my house, where I found rose petals covering my entire apartment, a candlelit bubble bath and a three-course candlelit dinner! After dinner, he went on one knee and asked me to marry him! It was truly an emotional and special night, one I will never forget!

Please provide a short description of your wedding day.

Wow! It was the most emotional and incredibly amazing day of our lives! It was more than we ever expected. We knew we wanted an intimate wedding with close family and friends. We wanted to make it about love and the celebration of our union. We believe we truly achieved this.

If you could change one thing about your wedding day, what would it be?

There is nothing we would change about our wedding day. It was everything we wanted and more!

What was the highlight of your day?

There are many moments to choose from but for me it was the vows! We chose to do the church’s vows and finish them off with some vows we had written ourselves; this was truly the most amazing moment of the day! Listening to the words he wrote about his love for me, I left like I was in a movie! I have to share the first few words he said and I’m sure you will understand why this will forever be the best moment of my wedding! He said: “I was not there when you were born, I was not there to take you to your matric dance but I wish I could have been. But I’m here now and I want to spend the rest of my life sharing the moments that are close to your heart.”

For Thomas, the highlight was the moment I walked down the aisle towards him. It was the first time he saw me, and he said I was breathtaking. He cried. The thought of finally saying “I do” and to have me as his wife overwhelmed him.

How did it feel to finally stand next to each other as husband and wife?

Truly surreal. Like it was meant to be!

Where did you go on honeymoon?

We travelled the Western Cape Garden Route – George, Plettenberg Bay, Knysna and the Wilderness, we did it all. It was beautiful and incredibly romantic!

What advice would you give to a bride-to-be?

Enjoy the process to the fullest! Don’t worry about the small things, and remember it is your wedding! Stay true to who you are as a couple. We planned our wedding ourselves, so it was important for us to do things together while staying true to who we are as a couple!
