Hamilton & Chuene

The couple met through mutual friends at a New Years braai. It was not love at first sight…only after a few more encounters that their stars aligned…

Chuene gushes about the proposal “Hamilton is such a romantic. My best friend, Dr Rethabile Mthunzi, helped him arrange a high tea. I had absolutely no idea what they were up to. She drove me to the Blades, a picnic spot in Pretoria…when we arrived I thought we’d be meeting up with her other friends – instead she led me down a path, which had a single rose with a note clipped to a branch of a tree every metre or so. At first I didn’t think much, but the notes started to have a more personal message as I got further along. I started realising that I had been tricked – and then at the end of the path, on the beautiful green grass overlooking the dam I saw Hamilton standing looking so nervous. In my hand was now a bouquet of roses that I’d picked up along the way. He went on one knee and proposed while Rethabile took pictures. After she left we enjoyed an afternoon picnic. He specifically chose the Blades because it’s not far from his home and when he asked me to marry him he wanted it be in his home town. “

Their wedding was a magical day. It was well managed as they had a co-ordinator assigned to them, which ensured things went smoothly. “She kept us posted with the number of guests that had arrived, and when it would be the ideal time to walk down the aisle. Everything ran like a well-oiled machine. Chuene continues “It happens so fast. We both remember being nervous as we walked down the aisle. I walked with my father and the groom with his mother. Neither of us could stop the tears from rolling down our faces when we saw each other.”

If the couple could change one thing it would be that they would have liked more time for photos, Chuene would have liked to really spend the time taking photos while the sun was setting – capturing those perfect moments. Highlight ofChuene’s day “when my Dad and Hamilton shook hands, hugged and shared a few words. That moment for me was priceless. That was his blessing for our union and it meant so much to me.” The couple enjoyed an amazing honeymoon in Zanzibar. They stayed at the Sea Cliff Resort and spent a wonderful week exploring the island. “If you’re a perfectionist like me – get a wedding planner! They take so much stress off your shoulders and ensure the day runs smoothly. They also think of things you otherwise wouldn’t. It was such a relief to have someone make sure everything is as perfect as I would like it to be.”
