Christopher & Zanele

Where and how did you meet?

Christopher: I’ve heard that ‘Happiness is a four-letter word’.

On a fateful day in June 2011, I met a lady who would not only change my life, but would redefine it. We met at an event hosted at one of my friend’s homes. On that day for some reason I was reluctant to go, but something pushed me to attend. Little did I know that there was “happiness” waiting in the room!

Zanele: I remember like it was yesterday. The topic on discussion at the event was about Christianity vs Culture. As the day went by, just after the host opened the floor for discussion, Christopher and I were having this exciting debate (let me rather call it an exciting dialogue). It’s amazing; the conversation started on that day and we never looked back. We chatted till the wee hours of the morning. Until then, I had never imagined what I wanted my partner to look like. And indeed, God gave me even more than I could imagine – a humble, loving, caring and awesome friend. What more can I ask for.

How did he propose?

Christopher’s initial plan was to whisk me away on a weekend to Cape Town and to pop the question at one of the city’s iconic sites. However, delays from the jeweller led to a change of plans. So ewe went to Cape Town, and then Christopher surprised me with a brand new Renault Clio Expression followed by a nice dinner with friends at the Protea Hotel in Braamfontein. He proposed as he handed me the keys to my brand new car. Talk about timing!

Please provide a short description of your wedding day?

It was a very beautiful spring day. We enjoyed a lovely drive past the magnificent Drakensburg Mountains. Everything we had planned came together so well; we were blown away by the professionalism from our service providers and the level of support from our families and friends. We both enjoyed every minute of the day.

If you could change one thing about your wedding day, what would it be?

I would not change anything, except maybe to extend the time of the event so it could last forever. It went by so fast!

What was the highlight of your day?

Christopher’s vows! They were heartfelt and very meaningful; they made me realise how much God has favoured me.

How did it feel to finally stand next to each other as husband and wife?

It was very exciting, a breath of fresh air. We just could not wait to be one.

Where did you go on honeymoon?

We are travelling to Thailand in December. We did have a mini-honeymoon right after the wedding, in Magaliesburg. It was a stunning few days of relaxation, with body massages, a picnic and bubbles.

What advice would you give to a bride-to-be?

  • Plan early and save enough money.
  • Both Groom and Bride need to be hands-on in the planning of your wedding (even if you use a Wedding Planner).
  • Keep a handbook or diary of important items (to do list, including payments and contact details of suppliers).
  • Keep calm at all times. When things do not go according to plan, go back to drawing board.
  • Not every opinion from family and friends should be prioritised. Put yourselves first!
  • Have lots of fun on the day.

In your comments, please refrain from using offensive language and unnecessary criticism. If you have to be critical, remember – it must be constructive.
