Chad & Kelly

A romantic venue was the perfect setting for this couple to say ‘I do’…

The couple met in 2011 when Kelly was studying for exams. A friend decided to introduce them to each other, but Kelly only responded to Chad’s message after exams were over…

For the following two years, Kelly kept Chad at arm’s length. “He was a very persistent man,” she laughs. “It’s been an incredible roller-coaster, with lots of highs and some lows, but the ride has been worth every minute! The man who I once did everything to avoid has literally become the most constant thing on my mind.

“I dreamt of finding a prince when I was little, and I’ve lived a real fairytale… from flowers to elaborate gifts, romantic gestures and out of this world experiences. Chad is the most caring, unselfish, determined, logical ,pragmatic and knowledgeable man; he loves me even when I turn cartwheels on his nerves. He is literally my own personal gift from God and soon I get to call him my husband – forever!”

For the proposal, Chad arranged a fictitious ‘glamorous event’ which his sister, Kim, invite Kelly to attend. “When Kim collected me she apologised and said she’d left her purse at home. So we went to her parent’s house. As we entered the gate I saw a long white magical aisle with a few of my favourite scriptures printed on canvas on one side, and photographs of our lives together pegged to a string like a washing line on the other. At the end of the aisle, in the centre of the biggest rose petal heart, stood Chad in a suit.

“He went on one knee and presented me with the perfect ring – everything I ever dreamed of. All I heard was, ‘I love you… I would love to spend the rest of my life with you… Will you marry me?” In between the tears and trying to say yes, I caught sight of my family and friends holding balloons saying, ‘She said yes’”!

Kelly and Chad chose Memoire wedding venue in Muldersdrift as they loved the exclusivity of hiring the venue and having it all to themselves for the day. They were also taken with its unmatched landscape.

To tie in with the fairy tale theme, Kelly chose a princess gown for the ceremony. “I found the perfect dress from designer Milla Nova at Vonve Bridal Couture. For the reception,I changed into a Ricca Sposa shimmer Mikado satin dress with a dramatic train that clipped off for the first dance and the party.”

Their vision was ‘romantic fairytale meets Royal Wedding’, so they chose white and gold as the colour palette. “The romantic fairytale element was highlighted by the incredible draping and overwhelming candles,” Kelly says. “Our flowers were all white ball arrangements of different heights. The couple’s table was draped with orchids and candle arrangements.”

Kelly recalls the moment that they became husband and wife: “It was an indescribable feeling, like the universe had aligned and everything was exactly how and where it was meant to be. Time stood still and gave us a moment to be.”

The couple went to Budapest, Hungary, Prague, Czech Republic and Turkey on their honeymoon. “It was a time filled with bucket list experiences, sensational dining, scenic views and unmatched adventure!”

Advice for brides-to-be? “Don’t over plan, just enjoy – the day goes so fast. If I’d have done that, I would have saved myself many sleepless nights where I went over every detail in my head.”
